Shaw Theatres LIDO IMAX
Shaw Theatres Lido, part of Shaw Organization - the longest cinema chain operator in the island city, is located right at the heart of Orchard. Utilizing latest and state-of-the-art movie technology, this 11-screen cineplex offers moviegoers wonderful movie experience. Located in the heart of Orchard, Shaw Theatres Lido not only offers one of the best cinema experiences in Singapore, but gives patrons convenient access to Singapore’s biggest shopping district. Moreover, the lobby features floor-to-ceiling windows that present a splendid view of Orchard Road, while the actual cinema halls provide viewers with crystal-clear images and an excellent sound system. Shaw Theatres Lido is also home to Singapore’s first IMAX’s Digital Theatre System.
IMAX screens are much, much larger than those of your average cinema, encompassing your field of view, and come accompanied with heart-thumping audio. Furthermore, IMAX 3D movies add a depth to the movie for a truly immersive experience. Virtually all aspects of the IMAX's Digital Theatre System have been customised to deliver The IMAX Experience – from the design of the cinema hall to the projectors, speakers, screen and even the port hole glass, to the creation of movie content. Every aspect is carefully looked into to give the movie audience the most immersive experience possible.
For a start, IMAX’s projection technology delivers crystal-clear images. The dual projection system projects left-eye and right-eye images simultaneously thus eliminating depth distortion during fast-moving scenes. 4 IMAX’s audio system delivers laser-aligned digital sound. Each IMAX theatre is acoustically treated to present accurate and realistic sound images with the largest dynamic range. This enables the sound to be crisp enough to hear a pin drop and precise enough to know exactly where it dropped! Then there is IMAX’s customised theatre geometry, which maximises your field of view. The high-gain screen results in exceptionally bright images and unparalleled 3D effect. The screen is also slightly curved and sits closer to the audience, creating a larger effective screen, which is equivalent to a 20% to 230% increased in screen area.

Shaw Theatres Waterway Point
Shaw Theatres Waterway Point is Singapore’s newest cinema with IMAX capability. It is smaller than Shaw Theatres Lido, but bigger than Shaw Theatres JCube, Singapore’s third IMAX movie venue. However, Waterway Point’s IMAX hall has an edge over Lido’s and JCube’s because it has significantly more legroom. This is Shaw Theatres’ ninth location, and the fourth that the exhibitor has opened over the last six years and all in suburban districts. With the four new suburban cinemas, Shaw Theatres has more than doubled its total number of screens from 30 to 66, and increased the total number of seats from some 6,200 to over 10,600. In the process, Shaw Theatres has also increased the number of digital IMAX screens to three, which allows it to deliver the world’s most immersive movie experience to even more local audience.
Shaw Theatres, part of the Shaw Organisation, was founded by the Shaw Brothers and has been operating cinemas in Singapore since 1927. With Shaw Theatres Waterway Point, it now owns eight cineplexes across the island, and they feature the latest in cinema technologies like IMAX, Dolby 7.1 Surround and RealD 3D systems. Shaw Theatres also manages a ninth cineplex, Century Cineplex, which is privately owned. An additional novelty to Shaw Theatres Waterway Point is that it also happens to be the first Cineplex in Singapore to be located below ground level, fulfilling your cosy dreams of watching movies from an underground bunker.
